Alltid intressant när ny forskning visar pÃ¥ nÃ¥got som ifrÃ¥gasätter vedertagna Ã¥sikter. Som t.ex. det här som visar att om man är helnykterist lever man kortare än t.o.m. “heavy drinkers”:

But a new paper in the journal Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research suggests that – for reasons that aren’t entirely clear – abstaining from alcohol does actually tend to increase one’s risk of dying even when you exclude former drinkers. The most shocking part? Abstainers’ mortality rates are higher than those of heavy drinkers.

Minst farligt lever man om man dricker måttligt med alkohol, här definierat som 1-3 glas om dagen:

Moderate drinking, which is defined as one to three drinks per day, is associated with the lowest mortality rates in alcohol studies

Andra trevliga bieffekter av att dricka måttligt är t.ex. skydd mot benskörhet, nybildning av nervceller och minskad risk för typ 2 diabetes.
